SDSU and Barona Creek Golf Club to Host 2005 Barona Collegiate Cup
Top 18 Collegiate Teams Set to Tee Off October 23-25

(San Diego, CA) October 19, 2005 — For the fifth consecutive year, the Barona Creek Golf Club at Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino will be the setting for a three-day golf event featuring 18 top collegiate teams as part of this year’s Barona Collegiate Cup, on October 23-25.  This NCAA Division 1 collegiate golf tournament is hosted by San Diego State University (SDSU).  Past winners of the tournament include: Ohio State (2001); San Diego State University (2002); Colorado State (2003) and BYU (2004).

The College-Amateur will mark the launch of the three-day event on Sunday, October 23.  Amateur players will team with college players – the future stars on the PGA TOUR – in an 18-hole scramble, two-man best ball event. All of the proceeds from the College-Amateur will benefit the SDSU Men’s Golf program.

The tournament will take place Monday, October 24 and Tuesday, October 25 and will include top collegiate golf teams including: SDSU, Brigham Young University (BYU), Texas Tech University, Colorado State University, University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB), University of Denver, Fresno State University, University of Hawaii, University of Utah, University of Nevada Reno, University Texas El Paso (UTEP), Kansas State University, Washington State University, University of Louisville, Wichita State University, University of Missouri, University of Wisconsin, and the University of San Diego (USD).

“The Barona Creek Golf Club is very proud to be the host golf course for this prestigious collegiate event for the fifth straight year,” said Rhonda Welch Scalco, chairwoman of the Barona Band of the Mission Indians. “Our highly-rated course will be a tremendous test for these top young players and we’re excited to have them test their skills at Barona Creek. And, we welcome another opportunity to support SDSU and the Men’s Golf program through funds raised from the Barona Collegiate Cup College-Amateur.”

Barona Creek Golf Club is a par 72 course that is 7,088 yards with nearly 100 multi-fingered bunkers and a series of lakes and ponds that are connected to the area’s naturally fed streams. The golf course also has more than 170 mature native oak trees transplanted from other regions of the Barona Indian Reservation. Making use of the subtly undulating terrain, prominent rock outcroppings and gentle elevation changes preserve the lands unique characteristics. The combination of both natural and strategic elements of the design make Barona Creek Golf Club one of the most challenging and thought provoking golf courses in San Diego.

Barona Creek Golf Club is the centerpiece of the award-winning Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino, San Diego’s leading destination resort, featuring 400 luxury guest rooms and suites, a 300,000 square foot casino, a lakefront wedding chapel, the AmBience Day Spa, and a full-service events center.   Barona Creek Golf Club is located at 1932 Wildcat Canyon Road in San Diego. To schedule a tee time please call (619) 387-7018. Additional course information is also available at www.barona.com.
