Barona Creek Golf Club to host San Diego PGA Section Championship, June 28-29 for Third Straight Year
First Place Purse will be the Largest in Section History

(SAN DIEGO, CA) June 14, 2005— For the third consecutive year, Barona Creek Golf Club will host the San Diego PGA Chapter Stroke Play Championship scheduled for June 28-29.  The event is sponsored by Barona Valley Ranch Resort & Casino and Callaway Golf.

This year’s event will feature over 60 players in the Championship and Senior Divisions playing for a record $22,500 purse.  The first place winner in the Championship Division will receive a $4,000 check, the largest amount in the event’s history.

The event will commence on Tuesday June 28 at 12:00 p.m. and the final round will be played on Wednesday, June 29 beginning at 7:30 a.m.

 “Barona Creek Golf Club is very proud to once again serve as the host golf course for this prestigious event,” said Don King, Director of Golf at the Barona Creek Golf Club.  “Our course presents a great challenge and we’re excited to have the best players in the San Diego area compete for the largest purse in tournament history.”

Last year’s tournament was won by Chris Starkjohann from Sorrento Canyon Golf Center in Sorrento Mesa who shot a 68-68 over the two days, for an eight-under-par score of 136.

Barona Creek Golf Club is a par 72 course that is 7,088 yards with nearly 100 multi-fingered bunkers and a series of lakes and ponds that are connected to the area’s naturally fed streams. The golf course also has more than 170 mature native oak trees transplanted from other regions of the Barona Indian Reservation. Making use of the subtly undulating terrain, prominent rock outcroppings and gentle elevation changes preserve the lands unique characteristics. The combination of both natural and strategic elements of the design make Barona Creek Golf Club one of the most challenging and thought provoking golf courses in San Diego.
