Barona Creek Golf Club Named Environmental Leader By GCSAA/Golf Digest Magazine

(LAKESIDE, CA) February 9, 2005 – Barona Creek Golf Club's Superintendent Sandy Clark recently received top honors among national resort courses in the 2004 Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA)/Golf Digest Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards. Winners are selected based on a number of determining factors including overall course management, excellence in resource conservation, water quality management, integrated pest management, wildlife/habitat management and education outreach.

"This award is an incredible honor for Superintendent Sandy Clark and the staff that have helped make Barona Creek Golf Club a wonderful addition to San Diego," said Don King, director of golf. "In addition to providing our guests with an exceptional and challenging playing experience, it was our goal to create a course that would preserve the natural landscape and wildlife habitat."

The recognition joins Barona Creek Golf Club's long list of awards and accolades including ratings as the 3rd best resort course in California and the 18th best resort course in the United States by Golfweek Magazine, one of Golf Magazine's "Top 10 New Golf Courses in the Nation", the 2nd best golf course in San Diego by Tod Leonard of the San Diego Union-Tribune for the paper’s online service SignOnSanDiego.com, and the prestigious Bronze Signature Sanctuary Certification from Audubon International for its conservation, environmental quality and land management efforts.

Barona Creek Golf Club and Superintendent Sandy Clark will be formally recognized on February 11 during the GCSAA Education Conference and Inaugural Golf Industry Show in Orlando, Florida.
